I can honestly say the greatest moment in my life was the evening I received this trophy for "The Most Improved Newcomer" at the Wordplay Writing Group, Annual Dinner.
I'd always written little ditties for as long as I can remember (I blame the parents! My father was always singing his own versions of popular songs.)
It was only after we moved to Spain that I began to write short stories and poems. It was a friend who said, my emails made her laugh so much, I should join a creative writing group. Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction, as that week there was an advert in the local English newspaper encouraging people to join a writing group held in a nearby bar. Even stranger, the chap who ran the group was a Birmingham City Football Fan. Well, how could I refuse? For years I thought I was the one remaining fan, so find there was another living in the same area was just too good an opportunity to miss.
With trepidation I walked into the bar, deciding to get a coffee and if I still had doubts, I'd drink the coffee and go home. I'd ordered my coffee and stood with my purse in my hand when a really friendly lady came up to me and said, "We don't pay now, Michael pays at the end." She grabbed my cup, "Shall we sit here?" Too late to creep home now!
That was years and 3 books ago, and I've never regretted a minute. For anyone out there wondering if they can write and publish that book in their head - join a writing group, because with help and encouragement from a good set of like-minded people - YOU CAN DO IT!
